El pròxim dijous 25 d’abril, a les 19:30 de la vesprada els companys Ferran Giménez i Javier Burgos de l’Associació Herpetològica Timon faran una xarrada divulgativa sobre els amfibis i rèptils que viuen a l’horta valenciana al Nostre Bar de la localitat d’Alboraia. CSIC participa en un estudio que comprueba que los anfibios están en zonas más altas de las montañas que en el siglo XX. Un equipo con participación del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) ha comprobado que los anfibios de la Península Ibérica están ocupando a día de hoy zonas de montaña más altas que en el siglo pasado, en búsqueda de temperaturas más frescas, hecho que “podría ser consecuencia del cambio climático”. Así lo ha valorado el CSIC en una nota de prensa este martes, en la que detalla que dicho estudio, publicado en el último número de la revista ‘Climatic Change’, también ha contado con la participación de las universidades de Granada (UGR) y Universitat de Barcelona (UB). The project aims to support the creation of monitoring networks and tools and a sustainable management plan for marine turtles and their habitats in the Mediterranean, through the implementation of harmonized monitoring protocols in line with the EcAp guidelines, and by adopting a participatory and integrated approach that consider both local socio-economic and environmental contexts. The activities planned are in line with the main mission of SPA/RAC. This is to assist the contracting Parties of the Barcelona Convention to fulfil their obligation under the SPA/DB Protocol, the Strategic Action Programme for the conservation of Biological Diversity (SAP BIO) in the Mediterranean Region, and the Regional Action Plan for the conservation of marine turtles in the Mediterranean. We are just back from a coordination meeting with our partners of the project “Conservation of sea turtles in the Mediterranean” which is supported by the MAVA Foundation. We discussed progress in achieving the project’s 5 strategies and shared plans on our upcoming activities in 2019. The project is investigating new areas where sea turtles are extending their nesting activity, monitoring know nesting sites, placing satellite tracking devices, building capacity among managers to study and protect turtles, elaborating national action plans where they are lacking, and much more! MEDASSET presented research results from our survey in Albania in 2018 and our planned activities to help reduce sea turtle consumption in Egypt.
