Exorbitant fine for Germans collecting endangered reptiles in east Turkey

Three German nationals were fined TRY 116,000 (EUR 39,000) after they were caught collecting endangered snakes, lizards and plants in Turkey’s northeastern province of Ardahan near the Georgian border. Willibald Schneider, Christoph Schneider and Hans Eichinger entered Turkey by automobile from the Türkgözü border crossing with Georgia to collect rare flora and fauna.
