El Proteo u Olm (Proteus anguinus, Laurenti 1768) es una extraña especie de anfibio urodelo endémica de los Alpes Dináricos, en el centro y sureste de Europa. Vive en las aguas subterráneas de paisajes calizos, constituyendo un caso bastante inusual dentro de la zoología ya que no es habitual encontrar vertebrados que viven en cuevas subterráneas.
