 | La costa de Doñana ha registrado este año 2010 la mayor mortandad de tortugas marinas desde que se tiene registro en el Espacio Natural, de modo que se han cuantificado 80 varamientos de quelonios en lo que va de año, según ha informado a Europa Press el director del Parque Nacional de Doñana, Juan Carlos Rubio. Según Rubio, la mayoría de los ejemplares que han perdido la vida este año en las playas de Doñana, concretamente 73, pertenecen a tortuga boba (‘Caretta caretta’), una especie en peligro de extinción con la que la Consejería de Medio Ambiente lleva un proyecto de reintroducción en el Parque de Cabo de Gata-Níjar con ejemplares procedentes de Cabo Verde. |
An international team of Mycologists and Ecologists studying Atlantic sea turtles at Cape Verde have discovered that the species is under threat from a fungal infection which targets eggs. An Ohio zoo said the longest snake living in captivity has died. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium said workers found the 24-foot python Wednesday morning dead from an apparent tumor. The snake, named Fluffy, held the Guinness World Record as the longest snake living in captivity. It was about as long as a moving van and as thick as a telephone pole. It weighed 300 pounds. |  |
