The lacertid genus Pedioplanis is a moderately speciose group of small-bodied, cryptically-colored lizards found in arid habitats throughout southern Africa. Previous phylogenetic work on Pedioplanis has determined its placement within the broader context of the Lacertidae, but interspecific relations within the genus remain unsettled, particularly within the P. undata species complex, a group largely endemic to Namibia. Al sureste del municipio de Valdemoro se localiza el paraje conocido con el nombre de Las Canteras, resultado de la explotación de yeso que se remonta, al menos, cuatro siglos atrás. Tras su abandono  la impermeabilidad del suelo rocoso de la cantera hizo que el agua de lluvia se acumulase formando pequeñas charcas temporales, lo que favoreció la aparición de plantas adaptadas a los medios húmedos como tarajes y juncos. Este nuevo hábitat se convirtió en seguida en un punto de reproducción idóneo para diversas especies de anfibios, como el sapo corredor , el sapillo moteado común  y el gallipato. Leer más.

A research team from the Senckenberg Natural History Collections in Dresden and the Zoological State Collection in Munich has studied the occurrence of the Italian barred grass snake in Bavaria. Based on over 1000 samples, they show that the snake, which was only recently discovered in Germany, spread northward after the Ice Age. In the process, the snakes successfully crossed the Alps—which are usually considered as a pronounced natural barrier. They were only stopped when they encountered the related common grass snake in southern Bavaria. The study was published today in the Journal of Zoological Systematics and Evolutionary Research.
