The female mud snake found May 28 in Georgia had cloudy eyes and patches of white, thickened scales. A strange, dark-gray material covered the inside of her mouth, and the skin on the front of her face had peeled away, leaving behind an angry red mess. Leer más.
It is great to be back in Madagascar! On Nov 5 we departed Tana on our way to our first destination Pic d’Ivohibe . This special reserve is located south of Andringitra in the south east of Madagascar. This year there have only be three visitors to the reserve and the only herp trip there was completed in 1999. The species differs morphologically from all known congeners by having the combination of dull-colored markings, weakly protruding dorsolateral bony ridges on head, narrow and weakly segmented vertebral ridge, and narrow vomerine tooth series. Pit-vipers of the genus Protobothrops distribute in East and Southeast Asia, and many species live in mountain areas with high elevations. Recently, a new species of genus was discovered along the Himalaya Mountain Ranges in southern Tibet, China and Sikkim, India in 2012. Leer más.
