Frogs that have been exposed to pesticides can die within hours, according to a new European study by German and Swiss scientists. Their study, «Terrestrial pesticide exposure of amphibians: An underestimated cause of global decline?» takes a look at the effects of seven types of pesticide products and their effects on juvenile Rana temporaria, or European common frogs. University of Tulsa doctoral student Michael Steffen and Kelly Irwin, an Arkansas Game and Fish commission herpetologist were studying the genetic diversity of salamanders in 2011 when they discovered what later turned out to be a new species of salamander in the state’s Lake Catherine State Park.
