It is known as the amphibian chytrid fungus and can cause a deadly disease that is decimating some of the world’s frogs, toads, newts and salamanders. However, the fungus had not been detected in the other lesser-known major group of amphibians, the caecilians, until now. Leer más.





![]() | A few years ago a novel fungal pathogen named Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (described in 2013) almost wiped out the entire Dutch population of fire salamanders (Salamandra salamandra terrestris). The wild population was almost decimated with only a few surviving individuals remaining. These few were transferred to captivity. The forty or so remaining salamanders in captivity did quite well and reproduced in 2013, resulting in many larvae. Two living samples of Cyclemys dentata and C. enigmatica were captured by a local villager from Klong Todaeng close to the peat swamp forest in Sungai Kolok District, Narathiwat Province. Characteristics and colour pattern determination including coarse measurements were done. This is the first record of C. enigmatica from this area. Leer más.
