Snakes ’use sponge action to drink’

Contrary to perception, a new study has claimed that snakes use sponge action to drink water. A team at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, says its has found that some snake species use skin folds in their lower jaw like a sponge, to soak up water and ferry it into their gut — this method is known as capillary action.
