En la salida realizada el pasado 25 de agosto he podido comprobar la abundancia en la cria este verano de Sapillo pintojo ibérico ( discoglossus galaganoi), predominante en las charcas con orillas que ofrecen rocas y piedras como zonas para ocultarse y una muy buena reproducción de Rana común ( pelophylax perezi), más abundante en las charcas ganaderas que tenían vegetación acuática y juncos en las orillas. In the Midwest, some people have a fear of encountering snapping turtles while swimming in local ponds, lakes and rivers. Now in a new study, a University of Missouri researcher has found that snapping turtles are surviving in urban areas as their natural habitats are being polluted or developed for construction projects. One solution is for people to stop using so many chemicals that are eventually dumped into the waterways, the scientist said. Leer más.

Since 1999 (and until recently), my travels had focused mainly on the European herpetofauna, with the pleasant result of having seen all species of Europe (excluding a handful occurring only in former Soviet states). My mother’s hobby (snorkelling) brought me in 2011 to see just a handful of Egyptian lizards, while my girlfriend’s desire to see giant trees brought me a surprisingly species-rich summer trip to California (2011).
