Transgenerational phenotypic plasticity links breeding phenology with offspring life-history

The timing of seasonal life-history events is assumed to evolve to synchronize life cycles with the availability of resources. Temporal variation in breeding time can have severe fitness consequences for the offspring, but the interplay between adult reproductive decisions and offspring phenotypes remains poorly understood. Transgenerational plasticity (TGP) is a potential mechanism allowing rapid responses to environmental change. Here, we investigated if experimentally delayed breeding induces TGP in larval life-history traits in the moor frog (Rana arvalis). El Principado descarta implicarse en el estudio de las salamandras

El Principado considera «muy interesante» desde el punto de vista científico el estudio sobre diversificación genética de las poblaciones de salamandra de Oviedo que lidera el biólogo David Álvarez, pero rechaza implicarse o financiar el trabajo. Así lo expone la dirección general de Recursos Naturales en respuesta a una pregunta de la parlamentaria de IU, Emilia Vázquez. Considera que «estos estudios son más propios de instituciones dedicadas a la investigación», tales como la Universidad de Oviedo o el CSIC. Leer más.

Parque Nacional de los Picos de Europa: Salamandra rabilarga, adulto

La Salamandra rabilarga (Chioglossa lusitanica) es una especie singular y endémica de la Península Ibérica. Es la única especie del género Chioglossa, cuyo nombre hace mención de su lengua blanca, característica que llamó la atención del portugués Jose Vicente Barbosa du Bocage, que la describió en el año 1864. El único pariente que tiene en la actualidad es la Salamandra del Cáucaso (Mertensiella caucasica), que vive en el suroeste de esas montañas, en Georgia y Turquía. Leer más.
