Trogonophis es un género monoespecífico de anfisbenidos representado por la especie Trogonophis wiegmanni (Kaup, 1930), ésta contiene dos subespecies reconocidas tradicionalmente, T. w. elegans (Gervais, 1835) endémica del Oeste de Marruecos y Trogonophis w. wiegmanni (Kaup, 1930) distribuida desde el Este de Marruecos hasta Túnez ( Bons & Geniez, 1996).
